I'd like to highlight my hair but need to know what colors. And how can I make my hair thinner, because it's really thick and poofy. Any ideas of what to do to my hair are welcome.

my hair looks exactly like that before i start to style it. I had it cut that short and had layers put in everywhere. Then i flat iron it down and use a 1'' flat iron to get every layer and make it flip outwards for chunky funky look. its hot and i get compliments where ever I go. and yes I had my hair thinned out, ask a hair stylist to do it for you, they'll slim your hair down in certain areas making the follicle thinner, by using their scissor, you cannot do this on your own. but if you don't use smoothing shampoo, try pantene smoothing or head and shoulders smooth and silky, makes hair very soft and shiny. As for highlights only go one or two color shades from your natural color, any lighter and its going to look fake, go to a hair salon and ask them what shade they would recommend, because highlights should be natural looking, not abnormally blond. since your hair is so dark you may look good with deep red highlights throughout, with layers and the sexy flip look.

also don't get your hair cut shorter unless you know what you're getting into. people with thick poofy hair look terrible with short hair, bob styles are reserved only for people with thin, straighter hair. The shorter your hair the curlier and poofier it will get, so unless you are prepared to spend significant amounts of time blowdrying and flat ironing, keep it shoulder legnth as is.
