I would recommend a shorter style, that would make it easier to put volume into it. I would also suggest a Paul Mitchell Extra Body, to put into your hair before you blow dry it, also make sure to flip your head upside down when blow drying to increase the volume. For the oily, I would consider a fortyifer shampoo and condtioner there is a really good one from Biologe, that will help clean your hair and scalp, to get rid of the oil. Hope this helps!

hmm....First of all you should put a deep conditioner in her hair to repair it.....Then blow dry it so that it gives it abit of volume...Then depending on if her hair can hold a curl curl it with a two inch barrel. Or use different size barrels to give it more volume...use hairspray to keep the curls in. Then if you want to losen the curls you can tell her to put her head forward so all of her hair is in front and put the blow dryer on the lowest setting on cold and blow dry alittle so it losens the curls. I think this should give her alot of volume so that her hair doesn't look to thin. The conditioner should hep the weakness...Hope this helps!

I have the same problem. Any kind of an updo would look good. Also, you should consider getting one of those hair extensions (about $10 at a drugstore) that will add fullness.

For a more permanent solution, I get "frontal" extensions to make my hair look thicker. They're about $150 at the salon and they make all the difference!

First, you can't MAKE anyone feel better about themselves. They have to want to do that for themselves. But as a friend, you can certainly encourage and remain positive :)

Great hair starts from the inside and works it's way out so eating healthy foods and taking good vitamins (most of the really good ones are at health-food stores) can work wonders!

For a hair style, try some up-do's that flatter the shape of the face and her particular occasion.

Oh, and a really good stylist is sensitive not only to the needs of the hair but to her client's feelings. Stay away from loser stylists!

Highlights always help thinning hair. I have a friend that is balding in spots and her hair will not grow very long. A talked her into a cute just above the shoulders cut with layers and highlights. It really made a huge difference. Her hair looked fuller, healthier, and you almost could not even tell she had balding spots.

if her hair is weak it probably wont hold a curl. wash her hair , dont use to much shampoo it would strip her hair of natural oils, and make her hair limp, when using conditioner only use it at the ends, not at the roots, that would weigh her hair down. blow-dry it with a round brush, this will help give he hair body.

you could find a nice jewled hair pin and pin her hair in a bun.

Hair Loss and Scalp Pain?

Over the last year I have lost approx. 2/3rds of my hair. My hair has fallen out in large amounts and thinned extremely. Hair bands won't even stay in my hair anymore.

I am not loosing my hair in specific patches or spots, but the amount I am loosing does increase and decrese at times. My hair loss is accompanied by scalp pain. It feels like my hair was up to tight (despite it being down) The pain is in specific spots but I have not lost more hair in those spots. I have been to 2 dr.'s who have done multiple tests. My thyroid, blood, liver, and kidneys are all fine. I see no redness, itching, unusual peeling, scabbing, flaking, bumps, etc. My doctor said she saw no sign of any redness, infection, or other skin problem on my scalp but wants me to see a dermitolagist anyways. I don't want to pay for a dermotalagist visit if there is no reasoning behind it.

Anyone have any thoughts as to what could be causing my hair loss? or if it is worth the visit?

Thin hair in texture and quantity will look stringy if layered incorrectly. My suggestion is a short blunt cut base line with lots of texture, even through the bangs will distract the eye from the quantity of hair one has. This type of cut gives the hair depth and direction/flow. A good highlight or lowlight would add even more depth as well. The long all-one-length 'do is not for thin hair so don't be tempted to keep on growing it out! Good Luck!

honestly i think u shud consult a proper hairstylist, cuz it depends on ur hair types and how much ur willing to style it etc. and when i say proper hair stylist, i dont mean some lady who just charges 10 bucks for a cut. try and find a good quality salon that uses good products. ask around and see if ur friends know a good hair dresser.

besides that, the hair stylist may recommend u not to do the bangs if it doesnt fit the shape of ur face.

My hair is slightly wavy, but the waves are random/frizzy/ugly and look weird if i don't straighten them. How can you style wavy hair and make it look good and the wave more defined? Are their any products? I hate straightening it every day b/c it kills my hair, and makes my hair look thin.

Try a thick styling cream along with gel, that will really enhance your curls and take away all the frizz!!!

It sounds like you and I have similar hair. Mine has a pretty "heavy" wave and can be coaxed into curls. What I do to wear it curly is wash it without conditioner (sadly, conditioner just smooths out any curl I have). I comb through it while still in the shower and do NOT use a towel to dry it...just let it drip down my back. Before I leave the house, I turn my head over and spritz John Frieda's "Dream Curls" on it.

I get a lot of compliments and a lot of people asking when I got a perm. The John Frieda stuff keeps it from being too frizzy, and leaving it alone after washing maintains the curl. Maybe you'd have luck with this process too?

It seems like a lot of the information out there is on how to tame down REALLY curly hair, not how to coax curls out of SORT OF curly hair. The Dream Curls stuff is only about $5, so not an outrageous expense. Good luck, I hope it works for you!

Okay. I'm 13 years old. My hair is brown with very slight red and blonde highlights when it's in the sun. Most people have said I have beautiful hair, but I HATE it. Here's why:

Conditioning settles frizz. Leave in conditioner, deep conditioning treatments, less heat and less harmfull product. Also be carefull when your hear is weat, dont brush it it just snapps hair at the roots. Comb with a loose tooth comb.

And stylists can use thinning shears (or you can buy and use them yourself, but be careful about doing this too much).

If you want a straighter look get a straightener, or find a good product to help you ease the waves.

Also, as far as the rest is concerned, you should just see a stylist, or even, if you havn't alot of money, go to greatclips.

If you go to great clips or another chain make sure you have a cut in mind and maybe even a picture. If you go to a stylist just talk to them about what you want and they are usually smart and creative enough to come up with something you like.

Edit: Oooo, if you are worried about frizz do not use a razor, thinning sheers work alot better.

my hair used to be really thick and frizzy and curly and in the past year its' gotten thinner, not sickly thin, but thinner, and a lot of my hair on the top of my head are really short. its down to my shoulders, but idk why a lot of them are so short and why its gotten so much thinner. my hair dresser even noticed. its easier to manage but i just want to know why. it's still pretty frizzy, but not as bad. but its so much thinner and it sorta freaks me out.

sometimes when you pull your hair back and then take the hair-tie out, it pulls out hairs from your head, which may be the cause of the small, shorter hairs on top of your head. I don't know of your ethnicity, but I am white, and I have the same thing.

well I found my hair had done the same about a yr ago and I used olive oil on my hair to smooth and condition it and then added alfalfa to my diet (you can take tablets or just eat alfalfa sprouts it helps your hair grow and tastes good on sandwiches or in salad in place of lettuce...happy growing..

The short hairs could be from wearing it up depending where they are located on your head. I don't know if you have any medical issues, diabetes causes hair to thin. Thyroid problems affects your hair and high blood pressure medication. If you have had any of these issues for some time it could that it is just starting to affect your hair.

Heres some tips:

1. Put oil in your hair at least once a week. Coconut oil and almond oil are good.

2. Make sure you don't scratch your scalp.

Yes. I had a similar problem. There are a few things you can use. There's a product called Euphoria for sensitive scalp, dry hair, breakage, and other ailments. It's all natural (no petroleum like in other products) and I noticed a difference within a week. You use about a dime sized portion everyday for five minutes in the shower. Then, once a week you take the same amount and comb it through. Place a plastic cap around your head and apply heat for twenty minutes. Wash it out as normal.

If you can, use defrizzer (from the salon! Not from the grocery store). I recommend Pureology. It's amazing! It's sold in a few salons worldwide now. So, give it a try. Also, pick up a hair mask (protein based) and use it ONCE a week...no more. If you use it too often, the protein can actually weaken the hair and make it stringier.

If you prefer blonde hair (which can be very damaging after a while) I would suggest dying the bottom layer of your hair a darker shade to promote shine. You can still dye the top layer blonde colours, but you get a more natural feel and your hair doesn't suffer as badly. Just make it one or two shades darker than your roots.

If that doesn't work (which I'm sure it will!), I would suggest cutting off a few inches to get rid of the stringy, dry bits. Actually, if you're not overly protective of your length, cutting a half an inch off would be great. It will make your hair look much better.

STOP with all of the products. STOP with the ceramic straightener (it is probably the biggest culprit). You are further damaging already damaged, delicate hair causing it to break.

Just wash and condition your hair every few days.

You may be happier if you get all of the damaged hair cut off. You may have to go short, but the hair you have left will be nicer.

Don't worry, it will grow back eventually.

You can never over come thin hair. Believe me I've tried. I never found any products that made a noticeable difference. The best advice I can offer is to keep you hair short (shoulder length or less) since long hair is weighted down and avoid heavy conditioners or hair products. Try to moisturize your hair and scalp evey other day. And try not to apply a lot of heat and chemicals to you hair. Also drink plenty of water everyday. Do this for about 3 months and your hair will grow beautifully!
